The Language in Conflict website is owned by the Stylistics Research Centre at the University of Huddersfield. By using the Language in Conflict website, you agree with the Stylistics Research Centre to the following terms and conditions:

General

You agree not to use any obscene, indecent or offensive language, or to upload or transmit any material that is false, defamatory, abusive, harassing or hateful. Further, you may not place on the website any material that is encrypted, constitutes junk mail or unauthorised advertising, invades anyone's privacy, encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offence or give rise to civil liability, or that otherwise violates any local, state, national or international law or regulation. You agree to use the website only for lawful purposes and you acknowledge that your failure to do so may subject you to civil and criminal liability.

You agree not to disrupt, modify or interfere with the website or its associated software, hardware and servers in any way, and you agree not to impede or interfere with others' use of the website. You further agree not to alter or tamper with any information or materials on, or associated with, the website.

You acknowledge that the Stylistics Research Centre has not reviewed and does not endorse the content of all sites linked to from this website and is not responsible for the content or actions of any other sites linked to from this website. Linking to any other service or site from this website is at your sole risk.

The Stylistics Research Centre and any of its group companies and the officers, directors, employees, shareholders or agents of any of them exclude all liability and responsibility for any amount or kind of loss or damage that may result to you or a third party in connection with the Language in Conflict website in any way, save that nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit the Stylistics Research Centre's liability for:
(a) death or personal injury caused by negligence;
(b) fraud; or
(c) misrepresentation as to a fundamental matter; or
(d) any liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

Interaction with other Users

These rules have been put in place to help ensure that the Language in Conflict website is a welcoming and useful resource for all users. The rules outline what is deemed unacceptable behaviour and you are required to read them carefully before posting comments and interacting with other users:

• Do not post libellous or defamatory comments
• Do not use profanities
• Do not post personal insults about other users
• Do not post content aiming to deliberately upset other users
• Do not impersonate another user
• Do not post content which you have copied from someone else (i.e. you do not own the copyright)
• Do not advertise or solicit
• Do not post content which contains confidential information about any third party
• Do not post anything relating to any on-going or pending trial

Language in Conflict does not review comments prior to publication. We operate a 'notice and take-down' policy, which means if we notice or are made aware of a comment that contravenes these rules, we reserve the right to amend or remove the comment.

The Stylistics Research Centre does not necessarily endorse, support, sanction, encourage, verify or agree with the comments, opinions or statements posted by users. Any information or material placed online by users, including advice and opinions, is the view and responsibility of those users and does not necessarily represent the view of the Stylistics Research Centre.

You are responsible for ensuring that any material you post in the comment area, including but not limited to text, photographs and sound, does not violate the copyright, trademark, trade secret or any other personal or proprietary rights of any third party.

We are flexible to a degree when it comes to self-promotion and including links to your site, if these links are informative and useful to the users of the Language in Conflict website. If, however, at the Stylistics Research Centre's discretion they are seen as spam or adding little value, they will be removed if brought to our notice.

You may only create links to the Language in Conflict website if:
• you do not in any way imply that the Stylistics Research Centre is endorsing any products or services, or misrepresent your relationship with the Stylistics Research Centre, nor present any false information about the Stylistics Research Centre;

The Stylistics Research Centre reserves the right to republish any material you submit.

Submitting Articles

By submitting an article to Language in Conflict, you confirm that this article has not been published or submitted elsewhere and you grant the Stylistics Research Centre the exclusive right to first publication on the Language in Conflict website without claim of royalties or other compensation.

You are responsible for ensuring that any material you provide to the website, including but not limited to text, photographs and sound, does not violate the copyright, trademark, trade secret or any other personal or proprietary rights of any third party.

By submitting an article, you confirm that it is your own work, and that all work by other authors has been properly acknowledged and fully referenced.

All submitted articles will be individually reviewed by the Language in Conflict team. The submission of an article does not automatically lead to the article's publication on the Language in Conflict website. We reserve the right to reject submissions without further notice to the author.

You shall fully indemnify the Stylistics Research Centre for any loss or damage suffered by the Stylistics Research Centre or any of its subsidiaries arising from or in any way connected to any breach by you of these terms and conditions.

The Stylistics Research Centre assumes the right to republish any material you submit as well as the right to syndicate your writing around the world for one year after publication.

Republication and Copyright

The copyright for submitted articles published on Language in Conflict remains with the author.

Language in Conflict has adopted a Creative Commons licence, which applies in respect of most content published in the interactive section of the website. It may be republished with attribution to the original author and the Language in Conflict website for non-commercial purposes following the Creative Commons guidelines. This is intended to allow blogs and non-commercial websites to reproduce content that is Creative Commons licensed on a one-off basis, without the need to request permission.
